Believe it or not, the cherries here were easier to paint than the background! I vacillated between darker versus lighter . . . and exactly what hue. Then I resisted the temptation to bring the background color right down to the subjects creating stark contrasts, and opted for the more realistic approach uniting the them with the wall via the use of shadows. It required over half a dozen glazes to achieve the precise hue and subtle shadings but I’m finally happy with the beautiful foil it made for this very deserving, brilliant trio of cherries. So you see, it’s not just a cherry painting . . . the cherries were the easy part!
