I'm trying a new painting support - stretched linen. It's odd how one has to adjust to a new surface like driving someone else's car. The linen is prepared with gesso in the usual way but it seems more slippery than the panels I've been using. I could feel the paint sliding this way and that under my brush. I really felt as if I were frosting a cake, rather than creating a painting. When at last I quit resisting the awkwardness of this new surface, I began to enjoy pushing the paint around. The small area around the point of the red crayon was a happy surprise. One of the joys of creating art is sending it out in the world. Another is painting a small passage that is new to me, a discovery.
