This was painted from the Brooklyn side of New York, looking across the East River towards downtown Manhattan, sometime around 1994. Painted at sunset, looking directly toward the setting sun. Since I've lived in Williamsburg (1989), I have painted from this location many times and it had been a favorite place of mine to paint from, particularly at sunset. It was an abondoned lot at the time (I have many tales to tell about my experiences there, perhaps I'll get into those in the future). Since about a year now it has become a park and they now have to close the park at dark of course (which makes it a little difficult for me to paint there today).
I glazed over the painting recently to enrich and intensify the color saturation and to increase the sunset effect.
