Dark Marsh

This is a 10x14 with acrylic and pastel. When I do these pieces with grey and then contrast with brighter pastel, I try to create an image of a cloudy or stormy day. I was always afraid of grey because I thought it was depressing - then I realized that it is a great neutral background for a "punch" of color and lightness from the pastel. I also think that these pieces have a modern feel.

this is beautiful.
I am also beginning to integrate into my head, that grey is THE backdrop for the brighter passages. Duh. And of course, grey isn't really devoid of color so much as it's a mix.
Reminds me of winter on the outer Cape.
