SANDY BEACH, NEWFOUND LAKE, NH, ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING

'For I will dream my summer days away
Where on the beach the lazy ripples play
Of that sweet lake unsung and half unknown, —
Pasquaney, 'mid the forest dells alone...
poem by Fred Lewis Pattee

SANDY BEACH, NEWFOUND LAKE, NH watercolor painting from a recent vacation to this beautiful lake.   According to Wikipedia  'The origin of the lake's name is a mystery. An uncertain tradition says that the Native Americans called it "Pasquaney", meaning "the place where birch bark for canoes is found".'  It's a beautiful spring fed lake of crystal clear water and sandy beaches.
