PURCHASE NOW!When reflecting back on my work since 2006, the three re-occurring themes that emerge are nature, popular culture and the machine. Contemplating the innate beauty and transience of nature through paint fascinates me as much as considering the implications that corporate branding and the machine age have had on societies. Many have suggested that my strongest paintings are imbued with qualities of both agelessness and timelessness, and that these elements are the true crux of the work. Others have stated that the content of my work is tradition. At the most basic level, conception is a result of perception – the act of intensely observing and distilling my surroundings into their visual essence parallels my fascination with the social and political significance of the subjects. I’m drawn to simple compositions, containing only one, two or three mundane elements. Revealing the extraordinary within an ordinary object such as a football, package of donuts, or combustion engine, may be a way of attempting to understand the absurd relationship between the modern industrialized world and nature.
