The color and sparkle of cellophane wrapped candy makes you remember that Christmas holiday feeling. Coping with all the challenges and complications of adult living, all the harshness of "real life" makes the pure joy of childhood Christmas sort of unattainable except in little flashbacks. If you get really get that back in your life, I think you are being unrealistic. The best substitute for that Christmas feeling is allowing your children to enjoy it.
