This was painted in 2005 on a trip to Mount Desert Island in Maine. This beach is part of the scenic loop in Acadia National Park. I had painted the same scene in years prior to this and each time I am excited by the thought of standing on the ground where Frederic Church and Thomas Cole painted the same scene. I was striving for the colors of the sand and surf and to get the details of the rocks (influenced a bit by my aforementioned forebears.)
