This was painted in August 2003 in Poughkeepsie, New York. It was painted off of Route 55, on Todd Hill Road. I found this wonderful field, with beautiful ocher, wheat colored corn stalks, and the deep red-purple trees among the other trees, and proceeded to paint there. After some time some people came out, apparently the owners of the field who lived across the street, to see what was going on - why someone had come to trespass on their property. They politely, though by no means timidly, asked what I was doing there. I told them that I wanted to paint a picture of their field. The said that it would be fine, it seemed to me their demeanor changed once they found out that their field would be captured in a painting and so at that, feeling at peace, I proceeded to paint.
