Pioneer Woman, original oil by Margaret Aycock

These paintings are a lot of fun for me.  I use them as a teaching tool to teach drawing techniques with the whole class using the same jumping off point... a portrait by a master.  It is a great tool because we are all seeing the same thing and talking the same language while teaching measuring techniques.  Once my students have a half way decent likeness they are then allowed to get creative with the background, costuming, hair style etc.  This is my version with the starting off point of a windblown model.  I gave her a source of her problem.... a cloudy sky.  I placed her in the middle of a wheat field in Oklahoma ( where I live ) and let her wear my new scarf.... how generous of me :-)  Unlike when I used to loan my clothes to friends, this one didn't come back to me smelling like smoke. :-)
This painting will be on auction this week through my ebay gallery.  http://www.midwest-fine-art.com/  you may also visit my blog at http://www.margaretaycock.blogspot.com/
