New York Skyline from Central Park in Winter

New York Skyline from Central Park in Winter

This is a view in Central Park painted in the winter of 2006. It is a view of the lake, quite frozen at the time, looking south, at the skyline of upper Manhattan (the buildings of 58th St, 57th St. and 56th St. in New York city). Ice and snow are all about. In the middle space beyond the lake we can see the snow is starting to melt and give way to the grass. Cool tones abound although it is a clear day as evidenced by the blue sky. We can also see that it is afternoon by the sunlight progression of tones in the sky.
The painting makes use of thick impastos here and there partly due to the cold weather which changes the handling of the oil paint.
