Two Tuscany Views by Diana Moses Botkin

I recently painted in Tuscany, Italy. After a stay near San Gimagnano, we drove our little rental car to another fascinating walled city on a hill, Casole d'Elsa in the Sienna Province.

We explored the town, and found a hotel nearby with good views, good beds and off-season rates with breakfast included.

Our balcony view gave me opportunity to do some studies of the Tuscan landscape. This is the first one I did after we settled in to our room.

The glowing morning out the balcony called to me early. Peace and quiet, and sky colors that brought back childhood memories of lovely dyed eggs at Easter made for a fascinating painting session.

It is always a challenge to try to capture that feeling of the early and late light but I love trying, especially in a place like this.
