"Granny and the Girls"

5"x 7" Oil on linen panel.

My exercise today was to work with a high key painting and to tone down the contrasts in value.
I was working from a photo so the values where naturally stronger and the shadows were darker than real life. The overall effect of narrowing the value range gives the apples a softer and almost atmospheric appearance. My favorite is the "girl" on the right. It looks like she is squeezing up to big sister.
