Hidden in the mountains and hills around Bonanza Creek are old homesteads from the early pioneer days. It's eerie to come upon them, crumbing and deteriorating. But weak as they might seem, they are visible proof of the strength and grit of the first families who settled in this region. We passed this Sweedish Homestead quite a few times in our rides on the ranch. It made a real impression on me and when I returned home, I was anxious to do a watercolor landscape of it in my studio. I hoped to capture the duality of the extreme isolation and stunning beauty of the area.
