Before there are apples, there are blossoms!   Many of them...like a white or pink cloud formed around the bare branches!  Lovely.  Often the bloom of apple blossoms corresponds to the bloom of wild flowers.   Here, I've depicted both.   If only I could attach the smell when it is in full bloom!
