24 X 18 OIL ON CANVAS
I set up the hydrangeas to paint, realized I had no time to paint while fresh, so I photographed them. Then started the painting from the photo. Anyway I ended up buying more flowers and setting up the still life again. It is pretty amazing how much more you see from real life rather than photos.
After I finished I wrote this poem below..( remember I am not a poet!)
AN ARTIST SOLILOQUY
Compose the painting, block in big shapes
Don’t care how long it takes
Uh-Oh running off the edge
Wipe out now, don’t try to hedge
Slash in those dark
with big bold marks
Lay in that color with strokes of power
Make color sing like a passion flower
Check the values, check the light
Try to avoid an eyeball fight
Gee, the shapes are jumping out of position
Could it be the color transition?
Looking a bit Ho-Hum, as feared
Darn! the darks have disappeared
Put them back and some edges lose
instead of going for that booze
Now looks like I am getting there soon
Hope so or I will turn into a loon!
