Hollyhocks ~ Jacqueline Gnott Watercolor Studio

6" x 8" ~ Watercolor on Paper

There is always a sense of excitement when I do a flower I've never painted before. These ruffled little hollyhocks are very "fancy" and "feminine". I was very happy with the end result. I played around with the background. I knew I wanted something to compliment the flower, so I went with lots of alizarin, some black and some ochre. (I love the look of ochre and alizarin!! So warm and inviting) I am very happy with the way the background blends so nicely with the soft pink of the flower, with it's burgundy center. Hope you enjoy this one!

For those of you hoping for updates about my Internet class.... Right now, I am so content with my daily paintings. On top of that I have my galleries, my workshops and a couple of outdoor art fairs this summer. So much to do, so little time. I know the Internet class will take up so much of my time, and since I already have a very full plate, I will wait until winter to start that project. I have saved every email that had shown interest in this, so not to worry. And as always, I will update my blog when things get rolling again. It'll be a very fun winter project!!
