Central Park Maple in Fall

Central Park Maple in Fall

This was painted last fall in Central Park (2007). It is an afternoon painting where the light is coming from the west, in this case to the right. One can see a section of leaves in the Maple tree lit up. The buildings of New York (Manhattan) make painting more demanding, in terms of time, as shafts of light come through the buildings and shift quite quickly. That simply means that one has to be all the more organized in order to capture fleeting effects. The buildings of the background and the road and shadows created a beautiful foil for the warms yellows oranges ochers of the tree against coolish blue red-violet background.
