Misty Morning at Peach Lake

This was painted recently in August (2008). It is a scene I've painted at different vantage points many times under differing conditions (Peach Lake, Brewster, NY). This happened to be a fairly late morning scene (about 9:30 or 10 AM). It had been raining the whole morning and had just begun to pause when I was walking around looking at the scenery. The sky was misty and the morning light was still out (not yet the blazing kind of sunlight as it gets close to noon). I noticed the sky, reflections in the water, and overall light quality in the landscape was one of softness, a hazy kind of quality. So I strove to capture the particular hazy, or foggy quality of the morning before the sun burned it off by observing the colors and putting them down to canvas (or in this case, panel) as best I could. The sky had a soft warm glow and the mountainside consisted of pearly blues, violets and greens.
